An Inter-seasonal Coat
Maya was asking for a coat to get her through chilly and wet Canadian fall and spring. She wanted a waterproof, long and warm coat to run errands and go for walks.
I found a stunning solution – Soft shell; it is light, waterproof and comes in a variety of vibrant colours.
Particularities
Pattern
I used Burda 6596 coat pattern with little alterations: added 15cm to the length of the body and shortened the sleeves by 4cm. I also replaced the hood by a self-drafted one, following the Rundschau (Мюллер и сын) instructions. The hood is made out of 3 pieces with built-in high collar; it is sportier and offers a better protection against the elements.
Making up
I essentially followed the pattern instructions. However, since I chose to finish all the seams in this unlined coat with bias tape, and then to stitch the seam allowances down, I stitched almost every seam 5 times!
Finally, here is the finished result, even with my green tag inside!
