Windbreaker in New York

Taupe windbreaker in New York City

We went on a family trip to New York City over the Easter holidays. For the occasion, I made a windbreaker for Alexei (14). I drafted the pattern with the help of the Rundschau system (система Мюллера по журналам Ателье). The style was loosely based on several Moncler coats. The materials came from fabricville.com, who sponsored the collab.

The windbreaker features a 70cm two way separating zipper, front pockets with little velcro closures, 3.5mm round elastic cord on the hood and at the hem. There is also a back flap for air circulation. The coat is lined in mesh fabric.

I used 7mm grommets to run the elastic cord. For the cord stoppers I repurposed black leather from old boots. The zipper guard features an eco leather insert. Cuffs are finished with 2.5cm elastic.

It took 3 sewing machines to assemble the windbreaker: overlock to finish the seams of the lining, straight stitch for the majority of contrasting black stitching and another machine for zigzag stitches to secure elastic cords.

Alexei was very proud of my efforts and happily wore the windbreaker on our trip. Thankfully, the weather cooperated.
